English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes
If you want to improve your English language skills, many organizations in Houston offer free classes
in English as a Second Language (ESL). ESL classes are sponsored by churches, schools, and libraries. If you want to take
more intensive English language classes, many are offered at colleges, universities, and private schools.
ESL classes at churches, public schools, and libraries are usually free. The lessons are focused on
English conversation and basic reading and writing skills. These classes are good for beginners who know very little English.
Some classes meet several times a week, while others may meet only one or two times per week. Some classes may be for one
hour, while others will last two or three hours. You will need to ask each organization what its class schedule is. Free classes
are usually led by volunteer instructors. They do not want any money from you, except for the cost of your textbooks. The
teachers are volunteers who enjoy helping other people For a list of organizations that provide
